Wow ... Just WOW ... By John S. Dean I was looking to replace my JVC Everio, which had a 60GB hard drive in it. I loved the convenience of hard drive, since replacing an older unit that had used the small tape cartridges. However, the prices of HD-capable units are more than willing to pay for a video camera, by what he saw in the units that only use memory cards.
I have the Sony DSC-TX1 digital camera and was impressed by its optical quality, and even had 720 films that were just incredibly clear that my one year old JVC camcorder. It was then that I realized I had to lose the JVC. Almost all the movies I make are my son, now 6 years old, so the better the quality would be happy. Too low resolution devices with JVC, the panorama was ugly ugly ugly, and although he had a great response in low light, image quality was just what I wanted in mind rather than anything else with my TV and camera.
I initially was going to get 100 of this version as it was so incredibly cheap for a video camera capable 1080, but the ability of poor low-light conditions put me off, because most of what I record in my house . And the very small number of optical zoom also spoke to me. However, conveniently placed Amazon links just under the initial list of products, if a new version, so I saw the 110 and the price was good. I did some research on the Sony site, somewhat confused that little had 16GB 100 cheaper, but the top had none, but when I saw the rest of the specs in comparison, I thought it was a very good unit to give a test run with. My local brick and mortars do not have in stock, so ordered from Amazon and got the delivery of early Saturday morning, Saturday, plenty of time to load and test it.
Leave all default settings except for the quality setting. That was easy to find, and the touch screen on this unit makes it very easy to operate. As with my sony camera has a "user" screen can be set in the six most commonly used functions to save you from having to go to submenus. I love this feature because it made my camera with touch screen as simple and fast to use.
So I did the test four films, all of the same thing (my 6 year old son playing with a huge set GeoTrax), at four options for the resolution of 1080p. However, in the center of the media, I played the highest quality first. And my jaw dropped and I almost had to go buy some diapers for adults. WOW. That was all I could say or think. WOW. That was just excellent, better than expected. I had almost no artifacting or blurring or anything with the movement of the camera as I have come to expect from camcorders. Even the confusion was minimal. And the planes were simply things very clear. I had a 1080 version of the movie Bolt running on television while playing with his GeoTrax, so the zoom so that it fills the viewfinder and recorded some of the movies. During playback of the scene, could not even say that they are not original game, which was a recording of the TV before, it was clear.
I was inside, Wisconsin, on a winter day with snow falling, so there was no direct sunlight, like all the clouds. Only one window curtains open, and no lights on inside. And the clarity and the lighting was excellent. Each bit to expect.
So I tried the quality of the hand, and I was blown away. As the third and lowest quality. Everything seemed impressive. I have 16 GB card as the 32 GB card was still in the price range of three digits, and I have a habit of transferring the files to my computer as soon as I finished shooting anyway. And in the third quality setting, the value defaults to a 9 Mbps, a 25-minute clip uses only 1.9GB, so you should get about 3 1 / 2 hours on this card at this rate, so there are no to worry about running out of the media for my normal use.
The screen is crisp and clear, widescreen format, and disorderly during recording. Touch response was very good, only once when you select something from a background of a menu of what I have to play twice, because the former was not recorded. Not having any pressure to get it to see my pressing.
The still image while shooting video worked easily enough, but not of high quality, so it will not replace your digital camera if you have a good one. However, we can give even a decent shot of something that otherwise would have lost ...
In short, it is waaaayyyyy better than expected, and more than I expected, even. 100% satisfied with the unit.
I can not vouch for battery usage, however, since I've only had it for five hours, and only ran about 40 or 45 minutes of recording through it so far. In a few days I'll pop back in here and edit it with the results I've seen in terms of battery life, since it is clear that the first review of this model.
