Loose work on Mini end

By B. Horn

I bought this cable to attach my camcorder to my TV. the quality HDMI finish of the cable incorporates a secure work but, the mini finish is thus loose that unless you hold / push it constantly it'll not work (no sound or image owing to poor connection). It seems that this item was manufactured with poor tolerances. This makes this cables nearly useless and doubtless harmful for the camera / TV.

Personal Review From Customer (Unbiased)

I know HD video. We recorded videos in HD family as the Sony HDR-HC1 first came out and now the use of the HDR-HC7 as our main camera. I shot literally hundreds of hours of HD video with Sony and Sanyo camcorders our model makes things about as well as they do. What to say, because the Sanyo obviously lacks the sophistication and internal optics that are present in the Sony ... But it is a fraction of the cost and fits comfortably in your shirt pocket. Not sure exactly what the previous reviews are expected when the unit was purchased Sanyo ... But it seems that some of them wanted one of the Mino or Kodak models and probably just buy it in the first place.

Most of the complaints of poor quality video, probably goes back to try to see the video in Quicktime HD via a "standard" PC ... It's terrible. But that's not the fault of the Sanyo (or any other recording device high definition). For example, the video clip I uploaded was recorded in 1280 the Sanyo x 720, 60 fps "HD-HR" format. However, when you try to see through an Internet connection with the Flash player, which starts and then stops, then start is badly stained, freeze frame again, etcEntender that this shines unit mini-HDMI Abacus24-7 Mini-HDMI to HDMI 6 feet to a flat screen HDTV. That's like seeing the photos and videos captured by this Sanyo. Trying to see HD MPEG-4 video with Quicktime or Flash or Windows Media Player or VLD, etc. on a PC 3 or 4 years of Windows is an invitation to disappointment! You have not uploaded the video to show the quality of the VPC-PD2BK video. What is there to show why most people complain about a device of this type as "not working" and "horrible video" and so on. You simply have to connect to an HDTV via HDMI (or a Mac with iMovie) to fully judge the video quality.

Therefore, our HDR-HC7 recently "flipped-out" (literally) and the LCD began to roll and not stop / stabilize. I had bought a 4 year warranty ext when new, but had to send for repair. Of course life does not end up going back to your camcorder repaired. I needed something to record HD video and take still pictures of young decent football, a military honors ceremony and a funeral Disney World vacation. This Sanyo has not disappointed and I would buy it again for $ 159 I paid to buy com dot a few days before it was available on Amazon. I will review the VPC-PD2BK taking into account several factors that are important to me. Also uploaded a few sample photos ... But keep in mind that what you see on your PC / laptop screen is not what you see when the "CameraCorder" is connected to an HDTV via mini-HDMI output set to 16 : 09, 720p. Amazon's software uploads the files that were originally 3 MB is the size and reduced to about 115KB, which is obviously nowhere near as 10 MP.

* Optical - 5 / 5. The 3-fold optical zoom really makes a difference compared with interpolation software that comes with a 3X digital zoom. Photos taken 10MP are crisp and clear and the video quality is exceptional for something so compact when connected to a HDTV 50 "plasma via HDMI Mini connection. Also, there are no problems to see the photos of 10 MP a PC with basic photo editing such as Picassa. I have no idea why people complain about the quality of photos and video here. There is nothing wrong with that.

* Video - 5 / 5. I have not even tried to watch any video on our PC, as they have the power to edit such footage. But when connected to HDMI on a TV, video quality is excellent and comparable to anything shot with our Sony HDR-HC7. I shot the video in "HD-HR", which is 1280 x 720, 60 fps of human resources. Our plasma has a native resolution of 720p and the video is crisp and clear. I have no complaints.

* Audio - 4 / 5. This is difficult. I love the dual microphone (stereo) of this capacity Sanyo. Why would you want to record HD video and watch / listen in mono sound anyway? The microphones are very sensitive, perhaps to a fault. I dock a point here because there is a low-level hiss video appears with long periods of silence. The engine sound is also reflected optical zoom and is significantly higher when zooming in and out during the video. I find these things unacceptable. On the other hand, these microphones can pick up the sound of the cars at 50 + yards away when not even across the road. If someone farts in your video within 30 meters, will forever be captured on video. When focusing on the negatives here, I could give you 3 of 5 ... But I could easily give it 5 of 5 for quality stereo recordings and pure performance factor of these dual microphones picking up everything - and I mean every sound - what is recorded. One would think that an external microphone was used.

* Photo Quality - 5 / 5. Now I do not usually take pictures instead of video. I prefer the video what is happening. But I actually found to take more pictures than usual with this Sanyo. I was pleasantly surprised to find that, like our Sony HDR-HC7, the Sanyo has photographs (with a lower quality of 1280 x 720, or approximately 300 KB per photo) while recording video. This is a great thing for me. If you have the largest PC and the ability to capture still images while editing HD video, so it can not be much for you. But by the time you boot your PC, load the video software and SD card, select the image capture and then invite everyone in your PC room to show her beautiful image on the screen of your PC, I have shown a slideshow complete high-definition television in the family with video clips that accompanies it shows the entire scene with the action ... I have also left and returned with a dinner for all. Taking photos during video recording is a convenience that does not fall flat with me. I'm used to that and I appreciate it. Have not yet been printed still photos (which could change my opinion of the quality of the picture), but they sure are crisp and clear on our HDTV. I have no complaints. [UPDATE: You can press the photo button while recording video to capture a shot yet, but I realized that it is not even necessary. Once recorded a video clip, you can see on the screen of Sanyo, and then pause and move forward / backward frame by frame to find the exact place you want to capture. Press the photo button and a separate photo file is created. Will be in the same resolution as the video format that you used to record images.]

* Flash - 5 / 5. This is what has been so lost in so many portable video recorders, while it is a fact of digital cameras that also record videos ... However, this Sanyo offers a very powerful flash that has proven useful in areas both inside and outside well-lit photos taken at night. I found the use of a forced flash produces better results in the capture of 10 MP, when inside, even when the ambient light seems sufficient. No forced flash (ie, in "Auto"), image capture can be a bit blurry and discolored ... A sort of what would normally be expected to use a digital camera or other model camcorder inside without a flash. Using flash inside catches produces crisp and vibrant even. Sanyo deserves praise for including this feature in other do not.

* Intangibles - 4 / 5. While the above is what I consider the main factors of performance in a unit of this type, there are the intangibles ... Things that are not "primary", but still affect the performance and / or ease of use. For example, the Sanyo has an automatic lens cover. Turn it on, opens. Turn it off and closes to protect the lens. This is pretty big for anyone who puts a CameraCorder like this in your pocket with keys, change, and any number of items that can scratch or dirty lens just above unprotected. You do not need a lens cloth every time you take it out of your pocket. Another intangible is the weight. Upon arriving at the elements of this small weight, it's on ... But I can keep a hand Zi8 Kodak and Sanyo is at the other and there is a noticeable difference in weight. The Sanyo is much lighter than almost feels "empty". In addition, this Sanyo is relatively quick loading. You can take a video frame shot or shot in about 4 seconds after pressing the power button. That's faster than our full-sized Sony HDR-HC7.

* The problems I have with this whole category of cameracorders. This is not so much about the Sanyo in particular, but these weaknesses affect this category of electronics when you're used to full size camcorders. First, I know I'm in the minority, but I prefer the Sony mini-DV tape system. What bothers me most about all these new business handset is the lack of a pause button. This means that when you're shooting a video with pauses (such as a youth soccer game), each time you press "RECORD" to start and stop recording, which has created a new file on the SD card. In the end, one is left with a series of photos and videos mixed into the SD card instead of seeing a mini-DV tape in the event that offers perfect video as a result of a pause and then restart the recording function. This bugs the heck out of me. I have not found a way to combine individual files into a "complete video game", however, and this is an ultimatum to me when considering what type of events video with this Sanyo video and what our HDR-HC7 . These laptops is called SD-card based recorders many events, because they do not want to end up with many files instead of a disjointed whole video at the end. Understanding this limitation on the purchase of any of these handheld devices. Another is no DV-out. All these laptops come with a USB connector ... But there are a variety of limitations when the output captured video / still images using other methods. For example, if you visit that family member who still has the 19 "TV color with rabbit ears, then you will not be able to connect this to her and show Sanyo capture. You need HDMI. Other brands / nodels have this capability with a "video" jack and even include cables to connect the old TV ... But none of them have seen DV-out, which is what it costs me to make DVDs of our HDR-HC7. These laptops also use electronic image stabilization, while most of the larger, higher-end camcorders use optical image stabilization. This means you need to move much more slowly and be particularly stable when shooting video, especially when the zoom lens. EIS is better than nothing, but the video still show a large amount of "shake" without stable or with a tripod. Also, do not expect detailed user manuals or sophisticated editing software. Most user guides / manuals are pre-loaded on the unit itself and accessible only after you connect via USB. Any editing software is pretty basic. For example, the Sanyo software makes it easy to upload to Facebook, YouTube and Picasa ... But there is no way to edit the video / photos before sending. Now, what sense does it? Imagine a world where Facebook and YouTube are filled completely unedited video and pictures. Obviously there are many things that are original and ... Now imagine that they all were!

Finally, the ruthless accumulating ridiculous comments here is not warranted. Is the top of the battery compartment easily slide when pulling from his pocket Sanyo? Yes you can. But it is completely out of hand. It is still secured with a rubber tab / plastic. If this causes so much pain that you feel compelled to write a 1 or 2 star review of this article, then maybe you should leave the video about others who are more tolerant. For example, the Kodak Zi8 has an SD card compartment that is incredibly difficult to open. It can only be opened by inserting a thumbnail and pulling it open, and do not make much sense either. Anyone who destroy this unit due to an apparent lack of quality video / photo has probably never shot HD video before. If you are considering purchasing one of these handheld devices, I suggest you do like me. Buy 2 or 3 different models and test them head to head before deciding which to follow. It took the JVC GC-FM1A PICSIO HD Camcorder (Black Ice) return for a refund. It was horrible. I'm boxing up the Kodak Zi8 even now for a refund. It's a decent hand he was willing to live with Sanyo before it was recently released ... But I've decided to keep this Sanyo for all 4 / 5 and 05/05 above reasons. For the $ 25 I paid for the Zi8, this Sanyo model is almost everything I need and does it better ... When I do not want to carry an HD video camera full size, this is only an outside pocket to capture the action when needed.

Personal Review From Customer (Unbiased)

I loved the convenience of hard drive, since replacing an older unit that had used the small tape cartridges. However, the prices of HD-capable units are more than willing to pay for a video camera, by what he saw in the units that only use memory cards.

I have the Sony DSC-TX1 digital camera and was impressed by its optical quality, and even had 720 films that were just incredibly clear that my one year old JVC camcorder. It was then that I realized I had to lose the JVC. Almost all the movies I make are my son, now 6 years old, so the better the quality would be happy. Too low resolution devices with JVC, the panorama was ugly ugly ugly, and although he had a great response in low light, image quality was just what I wanted in mind rather than anything else with my TV and camera.

I initially was going to get 100 of this version as it was so incredibly cheap for a video camera capable 1080, but the ability of poor low-light conditions put me off, because most of what I record in my house . And the very small number of optical zoom also spoke to me. However, conveniently placed Amazon links just under the initial list of products, if a new version, so I saw the 110 and the price was good. I did some research on the Sony site, somewhat confused that little had 16GB 100 cheaper, but the top had none, but when I saw the rest of the specs in comparison, I thought it was a very good unit to give a test run with. My local brick and mortars do not have in stock, so ordered from Amazon and got the delivery of early Saturday morning, Saturday, plenty of time to load and test it.

Leave all default settings except for the quality setting. That was easy to find, and the touch screen on this unit makes it very easy to operate. As with my sony camera has a "user" screen can be set in the six most commonly used functions to save you from having to go to submenus. I love this feature because it made my camera with touch screen as simple and fast to use.

So I did the test four films, all of the same thing (my 6 year old son playing with a huge set GeoTrax), at four options for the resolution of 1080p. The camera is smaller than I expected, very light and fits well in hand. The only real buttons to deal with the normal operation are the zoom and start / stop, which is well positioned despite the small size of the unit. If you want to take a still image, so you can do during the recording, the button is top right behind the capture, so it is easy to reach. So the use is great, no problems.

As I said, the touch screen menu is large, so changing the settings as he was a piece of cake.

It started with a high of 24 Mbps, the next (I think was 17Mbps), then the "default" that one begins to, 9 Mbps, then the lowest. When I finished, I took the card (access nice, quick on the bottom with a stable door, hinged). I went to my macbook pro very well, and started playing.

I have a 13 "MacBook Pro's unibody aluminum, which gave me four months ago. So new Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA 9400 ... And I could not play most or second highest quality of raw film .. . What I was told they were going to be great in my Windows 7 Media Center. The third and fourth files played, but from the laptop screen is not 1080, did not look so good. So I went ahead and pulled memory card from the laptop, put it on my Dell Zino running my beautiful 46 "Samsung HDTV, and play them all.

One thing I had not realized is that when you create the files, created in a natural breeding bluray format, the folder structure and everything. So you should make it easier for people who want to burn to Blu-ray.

However, in the center of the media, I played the highest quality first. And my jaw dropped and I almost had to go buy some diapers for adults. WOW. That was all I could say or think. WOW. That was just excellent, better than expected. Not that I'm very familiar with HD HD was bad even impressive to me - my first HDTV was purchased in 1999, a huge 60 "TV Mitsubishi Diamond line So I've been using HD for more than 10 years.. And this just hit my socks.

I had almost no artifacting or blurring or anything with the movement of the camera as I have come to expect from camcorders. Even the confusion was minimal. And the planes were simply things very clear. I had a 1080 version of the movie Bolt running on television while playing with his GeoTrax, so the zoom so that it fills the viewfinder and recorded some of the movies. During playback of the scene, could not even say that they are not original game, which was a recording of the TV before, it was clear.

I was inside, Wisconsin, on a winter day with snow falling, so there was no direct sunlight, like all the clouds. Only one window curtains open, and no lights on inside. And the clarity and the lighting was excellent. Each bit to expect.

So I tried the quality of the hand, and I was blown away. As the third and lowest quality. Everything seemed impressive. When I got down to the lowest, I could see any difference between it and the highest, but for what it was and is, the shot (my son), I think I'll end up with lower defect third party, which remained the jaw droppingly good on my HDTV.

I have 16 GB card as the 32 GB card was still in the price range of three digits, and I have a habit of transferring the files to my computer as soon as I finished shooting anyway. And in the third quality setting, the value defaults to a 9 Mbps, a 25-minute clip uses only 1.9GB, so you should get about 3 1 / 2 hours on this card at this rate, so there are no to worry about running out of the media for my normal use.

The screen is crisp and clear, widescreen format, and disorderly during recording. Touch response was very good, only once when you select something from a background of a menu of what I have to play twice, because the former was not recorded. Not having any pressure to get it to see my pressing.

The still image while shooting video worked easily enough, but not of high quality, so it will not replace your digital camera if you have a good one. However, we can give even a decent shot of something that otherwise would have lost ...

In short, it is waaaayyyyy better than expected, and more than I expected, even. 100% satisfied with the unit.

I can not vouch for battery usage, however, since I've only had it for five hours, and only ran about 40 or 45 minutes of recording through it so far. In a few days I'll pop back in here and edit it with the results I've seen in terms of battery life, since it is clear that the first review of this model.

Personal Review From Customer (Unbiased)

66 of 68 people found this review helpful. 5 Plug and play high-definition for the Mac user By GM Arnold It's been a number of years since I had a video camera. It was a tape drive, and after the initial infatuation with the new toy, I found I never used it. The recording was a task (juggling tapes and batteries), the load was tedious, and the quality was not so good. For a quick ad hoc recordings, my various digital cameras can take a few seconds of video good enough. The camcorder disappeared from my life.

A few years later, things have changed. I received the Everio GZ-HM200, broke in a couple of 8 GB SD card, battery charged, and I was ready to go. We did a day trip to Mount Rainier, the weather was perfect, and I took a lot of video of glaciers and waterfalls photogenic.

When I got home, I wanted to upload the video on my computer. The Everio comes with software for Windows PCs, Mac users are barely mentioned in the documentation. I had searched various online video discussions of Mac, and there were many cautionary tales about the problems of compatibility with the Everio. I expected problems.

I was wrong. I connected the USB cable to my Mac Mini, began to iMovie (part of iLife '09), and opened the camcorder. The USB menu open, and I chose the "Upload" option. iMovie detects the camera, I asked a few questions (video quality, destination, whether to check for problems of stabilization), and then import the video clips. It was trivially easy - just the way I like.

The Everio has a "snapshot" mode to take still images, and that he had tried. This meant that while I was working with iMovie, iPhoto launched and offered to import the photos he had taken. My verdict: It's OK to use 1x casual, but can not replace a real digital camera. The problem is that the Everio autostabilization mode only works for video, not still images. This means that a pair of 20x magnified images, while impressively wide, confusing without hope. I'll stick with my Panasonic DMC-TZ4 still images.

The JVC Everio is a terrific little camera: compact, lightweight, easy, and excellent HD video production. (Yes, my Mac Mini feels a little underpowered to work with this.) Designing dual SD card slot is great, the camera automatically switches from one card to another during the recording, and you can swap cards on the up. XP mode (17 Mbps VBR 1920x1080) 16 GB is good for 2 hours of recording, which feels about right. (You can put up to 24 Mbps, giving you 1 hr 20 min.., Or down to 5 Mbps, when you can run for more than 7 hours!) No more juggling the media ... ..

There are plenty of additional features in this camera, and at some point I may try. However, the basic work of plug-and-play HD video, this is hard to beat.

Recommends.

Sanyo VPC-GH2 High Definition Camcorder and 14 MP Camera w/12x Optical Zoom Review

194 of 197 people found this review helpful. 5 Buy large For brianh I never write reviews, but rely on them heavily when making purchases, so I'll try to help someone else. I was looking for a higher end camera Xacti, and was about to pull the trigger when it was released. I could not find any reviews, but a Radio Shack in the city actually had one of these cameras. My son had a baseball tournament this weekend so I thought I buy it and test it. For $ 200 I was not expecting much more and I'm supposed to return it. I was impressed by the quality and everyone else who saw it. There are some critical issues though.

First, it is obvious you can not buy flash memory cards plain old for this. I tried to class 4 and it was useless to 1080p. Class 6 works much better, but also has a problem. When shooting a baseball game that is set on a tripod and 1080 was amazing. When filming a football game that does not use a tripod and I have a crushed mess. You can not keep up with the video when writing scene in 1080, even with the Class 6. I have not tried it yet in Class 10, but everything I read tells me that there is no video camera 10 needs of the class of memory. That said, I do not see much difference in quality between 1080 and 720, except the video file size that are huge. The 720 is a perfect setting in motion, speed and quality. At 60 fps with the ability to actually stop the downward movement, while easily controlling a computer with the arrow keys. It's great for analyzing a baseball swing or golf swing and see the point of impact.

The battery is the weak point. Buy extras and have them ready. If you receive more than one hour of continuous shooting, you're in luck. Research-based flash memory user reviews from sites like Newegg or Amazon. DO NOT go to the local Best Buy and just grab something off the shelf. Never buy a stick above the 8 GB Class 6, and preferably no more than 4 GB. These larger clubs have many problems with corruption and you can spend a lot of money to replace these things. A reliable 4GB can be found for around $ 20 and get 2 hours of high quality.

Power button can be irritating, and the record button and you can. Those are things that will be resolved though.

In short, you can not argue that the quality of this camera is much higher than cost. It is the best purchase I've made in a long time, and I am a very difficult customer to please.

I tend to be too prescriptive and do not write reviews so I apologize for that.

Samsung SMX-K45 Up-scaling HDMI Camcorder with 32 GB SSD Flash Drive with 52x Optical Zoom (Black) Review

14 of 14 people found this review helpful. 4 Very happy with the camera By W. Turner I bought this new camera from Samsung a week before going to Maui ... very happy with the performance and features. I like the camera feature (photos) as well. BUT ... I am a little dis-satisfied with the life of the battery, which was caught several times in an adventure only to find a dead battery very quickly. The memory worked great, fired a couple of weeks the video value and is only used about 25% of internal memory. It was not even spare the two 16gig SD cards I bought. In short, very happy with the purchase, especially for the money, just come up with another battery (or two).

Insignia NS-DCC5HB09 - Camcorder - High Definition with digital player/voice recorder - widescreen - 5.0 Mpix - supported memory: SD, SDHC, flash card Review

61 of 61 people found this review helpful. 5 Great camcorder price great! T. Thielen I do not pay much attention to negative comments on this camcorder. It is obvious that not using it correctly. Of course, this issue does not come with a manual of great right off the bat, but the full manual is available online. Look it up on google.

A couple of things I've noticed people forget to do before doing a review on this product. There is a clear protective sticker on the real target. It is virtually invisible. You need to take this before filming this camcorder. Trial and error on my part. My first video web cam images appeared only slightly better. I was shocked and thought it was garbage in my hands. Then I removed the label and became a world of difference. Talk about clarity!

On the side of the camcorder is a switch macro, portrait and landscape. I found the landscape setting to be the clearest, while the macro setting does very well in their close-ups. I have not had the need to create portrait yet.

The image stabalized all works, if you remember to turn it on. For some reason, for me, when I turn the camera off and back on, not to stay. So I have to turn it on manually every time. Not a big problem, and you will be using a tripod table for many of my shots anyway.

The sound is loud enough and clear, and will do for now. You can not get everything for one hundred dollars, you know?

If you're on a budget, but you have that creative bug inside you, you really enjoy this product and if done correctly, can put together some videos of real quality.

Personal Review From Customer (Unbiased)

409 of 432 people found this review helpful. 3 Excels in some respects, but some fundamental flaws that sub-optimal solution for portable video By David Pearlman This is the last entry in the market Creative portable solid state camera pocket video. This is a hot segment of the market at the moment, with hot selling competing models from Flip (which opened the segment), Kodak and Creative, among others. This is higher than Creative final product, with more memory (8GB) and capable of "HD" high (or more) of video resolution.

Indeed, these pocket video cameras is competing not only with others but also other multipurpose devices can also take video, digital cameras and especially cell phones.

Before continuing, it is worth stating absolute about these ultra portable video cameras one: The selling point is portability. They are very small and lightweight, and therefore you can slip one in your purse or jacket pocket and forget it's there. That makes these camcorders, great for pictures momentum.

If portability is not a big selling point for you, then stop reading now and get a standard video camera. Even the lower end camera video standard is capable of video much better than any of these ultra-portables. (And the top HD standard video cameras, just clean the floor in terms of quality and scalability).

Alrighty, keep reading. As portability should be a selling point. So now the competition becomes an ultra-thin digital camera that also can take pictures. There are dozens of cameras and now in the market. For the following discussion, I will take as a comparison, the video can be taken on a Sony DSC-W220, a ~ $ 160 camera digital medium is in line with Sony and has 4x optical zoom, 640x480 30 fps video, and image stabilization.

This particular video camera is being marketed as a "new version" of the Creative Vado video online. Let's make clear what that means, it means very little. This differs from the previous ford "version" only two ways, nothing significant, and the other possibly important to you. The first version of the Ford of second generation came in one color (black) and does not come with software compatible with Macintosh. This "version" is available in two new colors (White / Green, Black / Brown, plus all the black) and now comes with software for Macintosh compatible.

That's it. End of differences. If you already have the previous generation Ford and second, if you wonder if it is worth the upgrade ... it is not.

What are the good, bad and ugly?

The good: Very small, easy to pocket, very light. It comes with a rechargeable battery that can easily be replaced by the user, and can easily power the camera long enough to fill the memory (2 hours in high definition). Very simple and minimalist controls means a modest learning curve. Charges via a standard USB cable. Built-in image stabilization (works fine). HDMI (easy connection and seeing through modern TVs). Large memory 8GB included. Ability to switch between HD (2 hours) and VGA video (8 hours). Built in speaker for reviewing videos (low quality, but better than nothing). Good video possible with good light.

The bad: Low light performance is unsatisfactory. No optical zoom (digital zoom only 2x). Built in microphone is very weak and is not appropriate to collect the unamplified sound at a distance. The USB connector is located on the bottom of the video recorder, and includes a tab that extends beyond the bottom of the box and that makes it very difficult to place the camera on a surface and have not resulted in the video angle. (I can not believe that this problem in this new "version"). No way to add more memory.

The ugly: The included software. The software is installed and accessed when you connect the camera via the USB connector to your PC. This leads to a control center that lets Vado, in principle, to view and edit the videos on the camera. Windows on two computers, one with XP Pro, one with XP Media Center, which have never been able to successfully edit video using the included software. Any attempt to edit the video over time results in the program crashes. It freezes and crashes also occur at times when you just watch the video through this utility. Fortunately, you can copy the videos from the camera (the camera looks like a standard storage device to your PC USB) and edit / view with stable party software (Adobe Photoshop Elements Premier, etc), but the fact the software is so error, even after several updates, reflects very badly on Creative.

So there are advantages and disadvantages. But how does it compare with the Sony digital camera, which is only slightly bigger?

In short, on its own video quality, the Vado lost comfortably: The Sony camcorder has a comparatively good in good light, and substantially better video in low light. The Sony has a much better microphone. Sony uses the user-supplied flash memory can be expanded. The Sony has a 4x optical zoom, compared with 2x digital zoom at the Ford. (Although the Sony's zoom can not be changed once it starts capturing video).

The two places where the Ford clearly better than Sony is the video compression (the Vado can store much more in the same amount of storage) and (slightly) better resolution. One of the advantages of the Vado is arguable that the controls are much simpler (and more limited). If you are technologically impaired, or if the camera will be used by those who do not have time to become familiar with it (children, friends at parties, whatever), then the simple control system on the Vado is a clear plus.

Obviously, there are many other digital cameras available that also have video. I chose the Sony DSC-W220 for comparison 1) because I have one on hand, 2) because it is almost the same size, and 3) because it has a competitive price for this Ford.

As someone who has no technological phobias, which would have to say that Sony would be my go to choice in many circumstances. I think the only reason I would opt for the Ford would be if I needed two hours of video (8 hours in VGA mode, but I can not imagine using that way), and a battery that allows extended recording (Sony's battery is lower). I should add that this is not necessarily a trivial difference. The peace of mind that comes from not having to worry about the camera is going to go dark or running out of space while recording a special not to be underestimated.

In the end, this is a decent product, very well in some circumstances (good lighting, audio is not critical, essential recording times length) and surmounted by a good digital camera at this price in others.

If it's worth adding to your own arsenal of digital toys will be a personal choice.
